If you are nearing retirement age, there’s an important question that you should be asking yourself. Specifically, are you really ready to retire? Particularly if you’ve spent the last 30 or 40 years slogging through the daily corporate grind, or maybe even running your own company, your first response was probably a resounding “yes” But before you jump to conclusions, maybe we should define what retirement really is. And that definition is entirely up to you. We all know how fleeting time can be. So if retirement is approaching, or if it’s already here, don’t let it slip away one day at a time, and gobble up your savings in the process.
There are probably traditional perceptions of retirement that may or may not apply to you. Moving to a warm climate, playing golf all day, playing bridge all night, sleeping in and then doing it all over again all seem to fit within the classic picture that many of us have of retirement. Of course, for some people, that vision might more closely resemble a life sentence-it’s not at all what they want or expect from their golden years.
For many reasons, people are living longer and staying healthier in the process. A focus on health and fitness in the earlier years is paying off today. They have energy, and the resources to enjoy it. For them, retirement becomes another phase of an active life, not its final chapter. These people are living an active retirement, and enjoying every second of it.
The term active retirement is not limited to leisure activities, by the way. Many retirees are pursuing new business interests to not only stay busy, but to add to their retirement funds as well. Let’s face it-regardless of how long you’ve worked, how much you’ve saved, and how well endowed your retirement account is, you’re still probably not entirely certain that your money will never run out. So adding to the fund makes perfect sense, especially if it happens by doing something you thoroughly enjoy.
There are many business opportunities that are perfectly suited for a retired person. A home based network marketing business is one such example. Using the internet and a proven turnkey system, retired people who have never been self-employed in their lives are making money, having fun, staying busy, and most importantly, securing their financial future. An online business may not be for everybody. But if you’re retired or getting ready to, it’s definitely something that might be right for you.
